When is the last time you were in the picture?

Thanks to the ever-present cell phone camera, parents take a lot of pictures of their children's every day activities. They share them on social media and by email and sometimes even print them! In fact, most parents have thousands of pictures of their children but only a handful of them with their kids. As a portrait photographer, I'm a big fan of family portraits but they do take some organization. It's easy to put off a session with the whole family; between work, school and extracurricular activities like sports, it's hard to get everyone together. The years pass and the children grow up. As the kids begin to leave the nest, you may regret that you aren't in more of the pictures with them.

Women, especially, are hard on themselves. How many times have you heard someone say, "I'm not photogenic", "I need to lose 10 pounds first", or similar. I'm going to share a secret with you: there's no such thing as unphotogenic- just bad posing and poor photography! A decent photographer can take care of the extra 10 pounds as well, just by choosing the right angles. A bad case of acne just popped up? That's what Photoshop is for. No excuses! Your children don't care if you are carrying a little extra COVID weight; they love you as you are. Forget your self consciousness and enjoy the experience!

I like to say that photographs are memories that you can hold in your hand. Having a pro take photos of your family means that you can all be in the pictures. Make time to have photos taken together. We all change with the years and none of us will live forever. When you are gone, your children will treasure those pictures of you with them, and the way you all were at one moment in time.
