Leaving a Legacy

As a photographer, photos hold an important place in my heart. Photographs are physical memories, recording the important events in our lives and the little moments that pass so fast. Children grow up, parents grow old, loved ones pass away. Having printed photos to look at brings it all back!  Today, we take more photos than ever but few of them ever make it to print.  We post them on Facebook and they pop up a few years later as a memory but otherwise, they reside on the phone, or computer, in digital form until a hard drive fails or a phone is lost.  What would your memories look like with no photographs to look back?

I have read that children benefit from seeing pictures of their family displayed where they can see them every day. Professor Geoff Beattie of the University of Manchester (UK) says: "For children in particular, looking at photographs is part of the socialising process; learning who you are and where you fit into the family. By displaying photographs of our children at different stages of their lives, we are making a very public statement that we are proud of them."

One way to keep your memories alive is to display those milestone photos on a "Legacy Wall" in your home.  I knew about this concept in principal but I never saw a better example than the one in the picture, taken in a client's home. This family values photographs, and, despite having a large family with a growing count of grandchildren and great grandchildren, there is always room for one more! When was the last time you were photographed? Your walls are waiting!
