Technical glitches
How are your New Year Resolutions coming along? One of mine was to keep up with my blog and write more often. I was over half way through a post when it vanished and I have been unable to recover it. So, time to start again from scratch! Thank you, Google!
January is a long, cold month and it is easy to put things off. I am done with my physical therapy now, and walking well. In fact, tomorrow, I will see the orthopedist for my 3 month check up! It's time to get back to all the activities I have postponed. The twice-monthly networking breakfast that I attend is back in session too. The first meeting in January was a cold and snowy day but, despite the blowing snow and multiple cars in ditches, attendance was surprisingly good. I think everyone is ready to get back to business!
One success I've had, during this cold and snowy January, is finding a new software program to produce the monthly newsletter for Kenosha Women's Network. Since 2012, I have used Microsoft Publisher but Microsoft has arbitrarily decided to drop Publisher with no replacement offered. Doing some research online, I was lucky enough to come across Affinity Suites. This software has modules that compare to Photoshop and InDesign and it was recently acquired by Canva, who made the radical decision to offer it completely free! I created the latest newsletter in Affinity Publisher, with a lot of help from YouTube videos. (What did we do before YouTube?) Better software and free at that? It's worth the learning curve! If you would like to check it out, click the link: https://www.affinity.studio/
It's always easiest to do things the way they have always been done. Learning a new procedure or tool takes some flexibility. Often, the changes are not as hard as you expected or the new method is better in the long run.
What about you? Did you charge into the new year ready to do hard things? What do you want to learn this year? What changes do you want to make? Where do you want to go? Rick and I have been giving some thought to celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary (next year) with a trip instead of a party. We want to "finish" New Zealand and see some of Australia. It's fun to plan and there's no better time than when the weather outside is cold and miserable!
