Doing the work

My new workspace is coming together. As I wrote a month or so ago, the change over to Windows 11 has prompted a lot of other changes. What used to be a storage room is now looking more like an office! I have a new desk and some storage cabinets which will hopefully keep the clutter out of sight. I have donated a lot of items and thrown away even more.

As with the basement, among the junk, I have found some treasures. I found a flash drive of old family pictures which Rick's cousin scanned for us several years ago. They are from Rick's maternal line and some go back to the mid 1800s! I am hard at work going through them and saving them in my Forever account.

As well as this personal restoration work, I am suddenly very popular for event photography!  I photographed a civic event recently, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the county courthouse. Soon after, I got another enquiry for an event at the end of September and a third in early October. The only complication to all this work is my potential surgery!  I find out tomorrow if and when I will have a knee replacement. I am really looking forward to being able to walk and stand comfortably for more than twenty minutes but it does rather throw a spanner in the works for all this photography! I talked to someone today about another event in late October. This is my second knee to be replaced so I have a fairly good idea how long my recovery might be.

Isn't this always the way? Photography jobs were a bit thin on the ground in the early part of this year and now that I have surgery looming, all this work is coming my way! Perhaps this is the Universe's way of telling me to keep going. All of these jobs have come my way through word of mouth recommendations; I have my community to thank for keeping me top of mind as they plan their special events.

I'm sure things will work out. A few years ago, I broke my right (camera) hand and I managed to still photograph the three weddings that I had booked. Once I know the date of my surgery, I will squeeze in as many events as I can before having to take a break. Then it's a matter of doing the work to get back to work, and I will do whatever it takes!
