Ode to Autumn

I was born in September, a long time ago, right around the autumnal equinox, so it's no surprise that it's my favorite month of the year! The days start to get cooler and the trees begin to turn colors. It's a time of digging out a favorite sweater and drinking pumpkin lattes-if you happen to like them. The poet, John Keats, referred to autumn as the "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" which is the best description I've ever encountered!

One of the things that make this time of year particularly poignant is the thought that the warm days will soon come to an end, so enjoy the fall weather while it lasts. Mild, sunny days and cool, crisp evenings are a photographer's dream. It's a perfect time to take family photographs or just go for a walk in the woods with your camera and try to capture all the colors of the leaves. It's a time when many weddings and events are planned to take advantage of the relatively stable weather. Labor Day weekend is one of the top dates for weddings, here in the Midwest. My favorite local restaurant holds an "end of summer farm dinner" at one of the local farms that supplies their fresh ingredients. It's an idyllic setting for fine food and wine!

I take a lot of outdoor family photos in the early fall. What better way to celebrate the children being one grade higher and three inches taller than last year?  There is a sweet spot from Labor Day to November 1st when the golden hour is particularly golden. So, book your family photo session; you will not only have a priceless record of the family at a singular moment in time, but a sure-fired hit for a holiday gift grandma is sure to love!
